HEALING PAIN AND INJURY
In Healing Pain and Injury, acclaimed osteopathic physician Dr. Maud Nerman provides a revolutionary approach to healing from pain and injury. Rejecting the view that the patient is a collection of symptoms to be inspected, dissected and drugged, Dr. Nerman demonstrates how a wide range of problems--including low sex drive, constant fatigue, unexplained headaches, anxiety, mysterious back or neck pain, weight gain, asthma, chronic pain and memory loss--can stem from the body's inability to recover after an injury or trauma.
Dr. Nerman weaves together fascinating stories of patients recovering from seemingly hopeless injuries, her lifetime of experience as the physician of last resort, the great healing tradition of osteopathic medicine, and new scientific discoveries to explain why the body's interconnectedness can be the key to recovery, and how you can understand the clues it provides. Dr. Nerman's innovative approach enables readers to harness their body's remarkable healing abilities and reclaim their health and their lives.

BIO
Dr. Maud Nerman is a doctor, author, and activist, based in Marin County. Over her 40+ year career, Maud has become one of the top Osteopathic Physicians in the world, specializing in the treatment of traumatic brain injury. Maud’s writing is deeply informed by the medical wisdom she has gained over her long career as a healer. Maud’s greatest teachers have been her patients themselves. Their courage and determination in the face of illness, trauma, and often insurmountable odds, has taught her about the body’s remarkable ability to heal itself, when given the right support.
Maud’s life itself has been marred by such illness. As a child, Maud suffered from childhood asthma and breathing complications so severe, she often wondered if she would make it through the night. It was actually this chronic illness that spurred Maud to discover her love of writing. From the age of eight, writing became her solace - her created worlds spirited her away from the sense of suffocation and into a world of her own imagination.
Her skill as a writer paved her way into Stanford's illustrious creative writing program where she honed her skills as a writer and found her voice as an activist. Maud broke barriers by publishing an article in 1970 in The Standford Daily, entitled “Adjusting to Gay Life”, and then in 1971, starting the second gay college student union in American History. Shortly thereafter, The Lesbian Reader re-published her award winning short story “Hands”.
After realizing that people who endure illness and trauma are her people, Maud dedicated her her passion to becoming an Osteopathic Physician and helping people suffering from pain, injury, and illness.
Throughout her decades as a physician, she maintained her passion for writing, and continued to hone her skills. Her expertise in brain injury, as well as her countless tales of patients recovering from suffering, inspired her to write the groundbreaking “Healing Pain and Injury”, published in 2014 and received with accolades. It has sold over 4000 copies and can be purchased on Amazon today.
Maud has also completed three novels and is working on her memoir, “The Art of Healing” which is slated to be completed May 2024, and manifests all that she learned from her decades as a healer, mother, daughter, partner, as well as a patient in her own life-long healing journey. Adrienne, her spouse of 36 years, and their 3 children have given her more joy than she ever anticipated from her life. The ultimate lesson of "The Art of Healing" is that the body has a remarkable ability to heal given the right kind of help.
